hair
loss...
This
can cause great distress and there are many misunderstandings about
it's cause and treatment.
Perhaps the most common type of hair loss is the so called ‘male
pattern baldness’, for which there appears to be no specific
readily available treatment for and since the cause of this is,
in part, due to genetic influences, these often have the last word.
However, this is a problem which requires sympathetic handling and
a qualified trichologist has to understand the patient’s anxiety
and, at least, help him to come to terms with the loss of hair.
There
are many other types of hair loss which do respond to treatment
and some which have a natural recovery. Hairfall can be a symptom
of some other problem or variation in the metabolism of the body,
and for this reason co-operation between the patient’s doctor
and the trichologist is often necessary. Hair is sometimes called
‘the barometer of health’ and it can be a reflection
of an individual's life style, indicating the stresses, tensions
and variations in the body system. |

what
is trichology?
Trichology
specializes in the holistic approach to healthy hair. In other words,
we treat the whole person, including mental and social factors and not
just the symptoms of the disease. These can include hair loss, baldness,
dandruff, itching scalp, hair breakage, oily and dry hair.
Alopecia
Areata is the loss of hair in patches. This can vary from
the size of a pea to total loss of scalp hair. The causes of Alopecia
Areata are unclear, but certain factors are thought to influence the condition
are genetic, auto-immune mechanisms, or excessive emotional stress or
trauma. Alopecia is the generic term for hair loss.
Genetic
Alopecia/Androgenic (common baldness) mainly affects males,
although female can also be affected. The hair recedes from the hairline
and/or begins to thin at the crown. The common causes can be inherited,
however, bad diet, drugs, stress, and harmones can also influence this
condition.
Telogen
Effluvium is the most common type of hair loss, which mainly
affects women. This is a temporary disturbance of the normal hair growing
cycle, where the growing stage of the hair is prematurely forced into
it's resting stage - resulting in excessive hair shredding. Common causes
can be related to stress, illness, drugs and weight loss.
Alopecia
is a global term for hair loss. Hormonally led, it is worse with
stress conditions. |
